The Two Oceans Aquarium at the V & A Waterfront offers an enchanting experience to both adults and little ones. The aquarium is located near the point where the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean meet, thus, the name Two Oceans. Marine life from both the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean are featured and preserved at the aquarium.
This aquatic entertainment and educational center showcases the oceans’ wildlife through interactive displays of more than 3,000 marine animals and more than 200 marine species. The aquarium comprises of seven exhibition galleries with large viewing windows: the I&J Ocean Exhibit; the Predator Exhibit; the Kelp Forest Exhibit, the Touch Pool, and Microscope; the Smart Living Challenge Zone; the Diversity Gallery; and the Penguin Exhibit. These exhibits offer wonderful discoveries to everyone.
The aquarium opened on 13 November 1995 and has since played a critical role in South Africa’s oceanic sustainability. It’s not only about the fun and entertainment, but it is also devoted to educating visitors. The Two Oceans Aquarium actively work on scientific research and country-wide environmental education.
They also have a variety of conservation programmes such as the turtle conservation programme and the monthly coastal clean-up. In recognition for the efforts made to reduce the impacts on the environment and towards sustainable and environmentally responsible practice, the aquarium is proudly a certified platinum member of the Heritage Environmental Rating Programme.
