Bloubergstrand is a suburb of Cape Town just 15 kilometres due north of the city centre. It is located along the shores of Table Bay, between Big Bay and Table View Beach.

Bloubergstrand is commonly known as Bloubereg. It was named by the first Dutch settlers as Blaauwberg, which literally translates to “Blue Mountain”, because of the often slightly blue tinged hue of Table Mountain across the Bay. This suburb is mainly a residential area but its beach attracts a large numbers of visitors, especially kitesurfers.

Blouberg Beach is a long and wide white sandy beach known for its classic view of Table Mountain across the sweeping blue Atlantic Ocean. A favorite of local artists and photographers, this beach is one of the most photographed sights of the Mother City. This is where the beautiful image you often see in glamourous brochures, advertisements or on postcards is taken.

This beach is very popular, especially on weekends. Although many people visit this beach, it does not get crowded because it is very wide and long. Residents and tourists flock to the beach to relax and enjoy a good picnic or to engage in entertaining beach activities such as walking, jogging, sun bathing, swimming and the most popular of all, kitesurfing.

Most days, Blouberg Beach is filled with body surfers and kite surfers from all around the world because it is one of the world’s top kitesurfing destinations due to its often windy conditions. Strong winds, glittering cold blue Atlantic waters, generous South African sun, colorful kites and the Table Mountain magnificently looming in the backdrop. Isn’t that picture perfect?

Blouberg Beach is also seemingly endless, making it perfect for a long afternoon walk with your pets. With its romantic atmosphere and stunning panoramic views, it is also one of the best places to enjoy either sunset or sunrise. The corner of the beach also has some great rock pools for the kids to explore.

Amenities on the beach includes public toilets and children’s playground. There is also plenty of parking spaces, so finding a good parking spot is not a problem. Unfortunately, there are no showers available.

During summer, street vendors open their stalls filled with either crafts or ice-cream and pancakes along the seaside parking. The beachfront is also filled with restaurants, shops and cafes.

Blouberg Beach is the perfect place to spend your wonderful weekend afternoon in Cape Town!
