Not only do you get to hike to the summit of one of the New7Wonders of Nature, but do so in the safe company of Atlantic Outlook’s highly experienced and vastly knowledgeable guides. Beyond an exhilarating hiking adventure, you’ll have the opportunity to explore and learn more about the vast bio-diversity, vegetation, landscapes, wildlife, and history of this world-renowned landmark.

That’s not all! What’s a hike up the iconic Table Mountain without sharing a few of the mountain’s best secret viewpoints and hidden gems? And that’s exactly what this Atlantic Outlook Table Mountain guided hiking experience is all about!

#Hiking Advice

Are you ready to take on the iconic India Venster? As one of Table Mountain’s more challenging and thrill-inducing hiking trails, the route to the summit is not a simple and straightforward climb.

The India Venster trail consists of short sections of scrambling that will require you to scramble over rock faces on narrow ledges, with some sections protected with metal “staples” (or ladders). As India Venster demands a certain level of fitness, experience, and skill, it is not a suitable hiking trail for those with a fear of heights or do not enjoy or thrive at the prospect of pushing their limits and boundaries beyond what is expected.

#Atlantic Outlook India Venster Route Description:

**The highly experienced, knowledgeable & passionate Atlantic Outlook Guide will meet all hikers at the Lower Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Station, after which the ascend to the Table Mountain summit will commence via India Venster. The hiking adventure ends off at the Upper Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Station.

**Provided that the Aerial Cableway is operational, and the cable car is open, hikers can choose how long they would like to spend on the Table Mountain summit, exploring their incredible surroundings, admiring the magnificent 360degree view of the Mother City and beyond, and take advantage and enjoy all the amenities and features the summit has to offer such as the iconic “Café at the Top”. Once they’re done, they can take the cable car down the mountain.

**If the Upper Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is closed, it’s time to strap your hiking boots back on as you make your way back down the mountain via the Platteklip Gorge trail.

**The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway tickets are R200 per adult (not included in the Guided Hike price).

Lion’s Head Sunrise / Sunset Hike

  • Start Sunrise: 6:30am (Mar)
  • Start Sunset: 4:30pm (Mar)
  • Meeting point: Starting point of the Lion’s Head trail | Click here for the map link
  • Duration: 4 – 5 hour round trip
  • Distance: 3km
  • Difficulty level: Easy – moderate
  • Fitness level: Low – moderate level of fitness required

There is no denying that hiking Lion’s Head any time of the day is an incredible and equally unforgettable experience, but there are few things that compare to hiking the roaring lion of the Cape Town skyline at sunrise or sunset.

Despite being one of the most popular and beautiful hiking trails in Cape Town, the Lion’s Head summit is one of the most magnificent sunrise and sunset spots in the entire city – Making a sunrise or sunset hike up Lion’s Head a must-do bucket-list experience.

Boasting spectacular panoramic views of the Mother City, Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain and beyond, Lion’s Head is not only one of the most sought-after hiking trails for both hiking first-timers and avid hikers from around the world, but forms a vital part of Cape Town’s topography – Standing loud and proud amongst Table Mountain and Signal Hill at 669 meters above sea level.

Table Mountain (via Platteklip Gorge)

Atlantic Outlook - Guided Table Mountain Hike

  • Start: 6:30am (Mar)
  • Meeting point: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway | Click here for the map link
  • Duration: 5 – 6 hour round trip
  • Distance: 2.5km
  • Difficulty: Easy -Moderate level of difficulty
  • Fitness level: Moderate level of fitness required

Platteklip Gorge is regarded as one of the most sought after, shortest, and less challenging routes to the Table Mountain summit. This makes it an extremely popular hiking trail for both hiking first timers and avid hiking enthusiasts. It is also deemed the best choice for hikers with limited time and experience who are eager to hike to the top of the mighty Table Mountain.

While Platteklip Gorge may be one of Table Mountain’s easier ascends and doesn’t require any expert mountaineering skills or challenging rock climbing or scrambling, it does demand a lot of upward climbing. As it is one of Table Mountain’s shorter and most direct routes to the summit, be prepared for rocky trails with large steps and steep sections.

Once you reach the summit, you will be well rewarded for your hiking efforts with one of the most spectacular high-rise Table Mountain views of the Mother City and beyond.

**Bonus: Besides being one of Table Mountain’s easier ascends, Platteklip Gorge is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Cape Town. This is owed to the unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean and glorious city of Cape Town all the way throughout your hike. Not to mention the incredible variety of wildlife and endemic fauna and flora you will encounter along the way.

#Atlantic Outlook Platteklip Gorge Route Description:

**One of Atlantic Outlook’s highly experienced, knowledgeable & passionate Guides will meet all hikers at the Lower Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Station, after which the ascend to the Table Mountain summit will commence via Platteklip Gorge. The hiking adventure ends off at the Upper Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Station.

**Provided that the Aerial Cableway is operational, hikers can choose how long they would like to spend on the Table Mountain summit, exploring their incredible surroundings, admiring the magnificent 360degree view of the Mother City and beyond, and enjoy all the amenities and features the summit has to offer such as the iconic “Café at the Top”. Once they’re done, they can take the cable car down the mountain. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway tickets are R200 per adult (not included in the Guided Hike price).

**If the Upper Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is closed (due to strong winds and unforeseeable weather conditions), strap your hiking boots back on as you make your way back down the mountain via the Platteklip Gorge trail.
