Cape Town is blessed with some remarkable dams for swimming, picnics and other activities. The Rhodes Memorial Dam is one of the popular reservoirs in Cape Town and is also a favourite swimming spot.

It is only a 10-minute walk right of the Newlands Picnic Park. Its location is ideal for anyone living in and around Cape Town.

Take A Scenic and Exhilarating Dip

The dam has plenty of shady and sunny spots for a picnic or braai. The seating around the dam is, however, a bit rocky and uneven. There is also no ablution facilities in the area.

But this secluded spot is a haven for families as well as students who come to relax after a tough day at class. It is a peaceful and relaxing place surrounded by blossoming trees and beautiful mountain views. Its cold water is perfect for a quick swim on a hot day.

Tourists and locals alike are urged to take necessary precautions when exploring secluded areas like the Rhodes Memorial Dam, as crimes and accidents do happen. Swimming in the dam is not suitable for very young or small kids because there have been reported incidents of drowning. Petty theft has also been reported so it is better to leave your valuables at home. Visitors are also urged to observe proper waste disposal as wastes easily pile up making the dam look like a dumping ground.
