Quion Rock
Welcoming avid local wine lovers and passionate wine connoisseurs from around the world, Quoin Rock is one of the Western Cape’s most renowned Wine Estates.
Situated in the middle of the Knorhoek Valley on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, a visit to Quoin Rock should be on everyone’s bucket-list.
2012 Signalled an exciting new era for Quoin Rock as the old wine estate was entirely transformed by combining its deep historical roots with a modern vision for the future. The Gaiduk family not only invested in the restoration of the 200-ha estate over the following years, but in a future where visitors, guests, and avid wine enthusiasts would be captivated and inspired by their experience. From wine-tasting to picnics, culinary adventures, weddings, events, and tranquil mountain escapes, Quoin Rock truly has it all.

Quoin Rock Winery
The Quoin Rock wine philosophy: Craftsmanship within the vineyard and the winemaker’s innovation in the cellar leads to wines that embody the uniqueness of our terroir
Quoin Rock’s array of wines offer a myriad of well-balanced, complex flavours and vibrant fruit and balanced complexities for which the Stellenbosch region is famous.
Their wines are born in the green vineyards of Stellenbosch and Quoin Point, near the Southernmost tip of Africa. The winery’s growing area stretches along the Simonsberg and is planted with grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Merlot, while the production takes place in Stellenbosch.
Quoin Rock’s conservation, Boskloof conservation farm, is located at the southern tip in the Agulhas region. This distinct location marks the departure point from which some of Quoin Rock’s most exclusive wines begin their journey.
Quoin Rock Winery combines Ukrainian culture
with South African wine tradition
Quoin Rock has two distinct wine ranges, Quoin Rock Wines and Namysto Wines. The heart of the winery is the Quoin Rock collection, which includes five unique wine creations, including the Quoin Rock Chardonnay, White Blend, Shiraz, and its flagship award-winning wine, Quoin Rock Red Blend. The Quoin Rock arsenal boasts a Black Series MCC in addition to a Blanc de Blanc, the crown jewel of the winery’s selection.
Complemented by the Namysto lifestyle range, the Quoin Rock custodians combine their Ukrainian culture with their adopted home of South Africa. A range of three creations, Namysto takes the shape of a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, classic Shiraz – Cabernet Sauvignon and sophisticated Rosé, each produced with a special message. The label celebrates the oldest Ukrainian pearl necklace, which is regarded as one of the oldest forms of women’s ornaments in Ukraine. In certain African cultures, such necklaces are worn to this day, not only as adornments but signifying a deep symbolic significance.
Quoin Rock created this wine range to signify the coming together of different cultures. The vibrant and diverse colours and pearls can be found on the labels of each Namysto wine and also embodies the individual aromas that mature respectively in each wine.
The interplay of the new wine world & the elegance
of the old wine world
Following the simple principle that good wine can only be made from good grapes, winemaker Schalk Opperman prides himself in creating and producing pristine, well-balanced, first-class wines with complex flavours time and again. Schalk attributes the exceptional taste of the best Quoin Rock wines to the natural balance in the vineyards, the unique interplay of weather and soil, and constantly observing the development of the vines. The rewards are particularly reflected in the Bordeaux-style grape varieties, which are produced to absolute perfection and superior quality.
As the Stellenbosch vineyards are more suited to red wine varieties, Quoin Rock is well known for its incredible selection of Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their Elim vineyards are however more suited to grape varieties that have higher cold requirements, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
**Please note that Quoin Rock’s online winery shop only delivers within South Africa
International buyers can purchase Quoin Rock wines through respective agents. It is important to note that they might not have all wines available, and vintages might vary. If you prefer placing your wine order directly with Quoin Rock, email [email protected].
Quoin Rock Wines
Chardonnay, 2018
Quoin Rock Chardonnay is youthful, energetic & vibrant. This fully encapsulates the pristine Chardonnay that first meets your senses with notes of ripe citrus and orange peel that give way to hints of vanilla spice oak and toasted brioche.
Straw in colour with a hint of green, expect citrus peel on your palate with good weight and a light buttery texture. Savour every sip of this lovely balanced wine or pair it with most seafood dishes, crayfish with homemade mayonnaise.
*Accolades | Decanter 90 | Platter 4 1/2 Stars
Shiraz, 2016
If the Quoin Rock Shiraz was a personality, it would be front and center stage, an opera lead in its big, bold character. But like an aria, you will discover harmony and balance with jasmine, pepper-spice, melba-toast and sweet vanilla flavours, with beautiful oak to add elegance and smoothness.
This Shiraz will shine as a “solo performer” or in a chorus of beef, lamb and rich venison dishes.
*Accolades | recently released vintage
Namysto Wines
Shiraz | Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016
Namysto Red (mostly Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon matured for 20 months in French Oak barrels) teases your sense with smells of red berry aromas – think cherry, mulberry, and cassis – with a dash of peppercorn.
On the palate you can expect spiciness in subtle hints of tobacco and leather and a finish described as ‘velvety’.
*Accolades | Decanter 90

Quoin Rock Architecture
The pioneering vision of Dr Julia Gaiduk has transformed Quoin Rock Wine Estate into one of the most masterful architectural undertakings in the Cape Winelands.
The architectural genius of Quoin Rock lies in the seamless blend of exterior landscape with magnificent interior space. For Dr Julia Gaiduk symbolism was a strong driving force behind the 2012 Quoin Rock restoration and reconstruction project, with structural and architectural elements drawing on the natural surrounds. Introducing a level of modernity and contrast by combining existing brick wall structural elements with completely new glass and metal structures was another one of Julia’s main objectives.
From the dynamic use of water in the entrance space to the reflection of natural light in the reception area, every architectural detail and aspect of the work is meticulously thought out and a feat of creative brilliance.
The 5,5 metre bronze sculpture of the vine, the “Heart of Quoin Rock”, sets the tone for the symbolic “circle of life” carried through to the internal spaces of the Wine Lounge and prestigious Gåte Restaurant.
Quoin Rock’s remarkable redesign is nothing short of pure art in motion. Here, brilliant architecture epitomises the very essence of what makes this estate superior in every way.
