Cableway, Table Mountain

Secret Cape Town

Photo taken at: Cape Town, Western Cape

Photo Caption: One of the best views of the city is from the top of the mountain. It can be hard work getting up there, but there is always a nice easy way down if you want it! And you can enjoy the view on the way down. Hopefully you aren’t afraid of heights.

Table Mountain is Cape Town’s most famous landmark and the country’s most photographed attraction. It got its name from its uncanny resemblance to a table. This flat-topped mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town and every year thousands of nature-lovers and adventurous individuals flock to it. It is the perfect place to take a breathtaking bird’s-eye view photo of the city. The mountain was also voted one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2011.

Table Mountain is home to a large variety of unique flora and fauna. In fact, more than 70% of all the plants found on the mountain are endemic, meaning they are not found anywhere else. Tourists and locals can enjoy epic outdoor activities on the mountain like hiking, rock climbing, caving and mountain biking.

Cableway, Table Mountain

The mountain is elevated 1,085 meters above sea level. For those not brave enough to ascend it on foot, the cable car transportation system built by Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company in 1929 is the perfect solution. The cable cars, or rotairs, revolve slowly to give travelers the chance to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city.

Table Mountain’s magnificence, beauty, remarkable features, and outdoor adventures it offers, makes it one of the most visited places in the city.
