The Gravity Adventures experiences range from one-day micro adventure tours, to multi-day wilderness tours. These include coasteering, SUPing, sea kayaking, kloofing, and river rafting. Gravity Adventures has something for every level of thrill-seeker!
Coasteering
Grading: 1-4 (easy to challenging)
Length: 2 to 3 hours
Season: All year round – best in Spring/Summer

This is a brand new South African adventure activity. The first time it was offered in Wales and Scotland, and Gravity Adventures has now brought it to South Africa. Offered in Simonstown, close to the famous Boulders Beach, you can interact with the ocean in a unique way. It’s similar to kloofing, but this fun activity is enjoyed along the protected coastline. You will be geared in a wetsuit, lifejacket, and helmet. A guide will teach you the tricks to become an expert coasteerer. The water on this side of the peninsula is crystal clear and protected from the feisty South Easter wind. Your selfie with a penguin will make this an epic adventure! If you feel brave enough, you can attempt one of the rock jumps, which are up to 10m high, depending on the tide. But they are not compulsory. It’s perfect for all skill levels.
SUP – Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Stand Up Paddle Boarding is a brand new offering from Gravity Adventures. They offer SUPping all year-round with 1 to 2 days trips around the Western Cape and 3 to 4 days trips on the Orange River. Each inquiry will be treated as a tailor-made package since this adventure offering is still new.
West Coast Sea Kayaking
Grading: 1 (easy)
Length: 1 to 3 or more days

Gravity Adventures currently has sole rights to operate commercial sea kayaking trips in the beautiful West Coast National Park. Experience the stunning bird life, magnificent scenery, and excellent local seafood. Gravity Adventures offers The Island Paddle which is a two-hour paddle around Schaapen Island, giving you an opportunity to closely encounter its protected bird colony, seals and white bunnies. They also offer a four-hour kayaking tour called The Explorer Paddle which takes you deeper into the National Park. A variety of day trips as well as some overnight options are also available.
Mobi-Kayak Trails
Gravity Adventures has developed three routes which they offer as standard trips. You will get to spend two hours on their super stable, comfortable and fast kayaks. These kayak trips are suitable for all skill levels.
The Fishoek, Kalkbay Harbour trail starts at the lifesaving club at the Fishoek beach. Get ready to hit the water with gear provided by Gravity Adventures. Your guide will give you a briefing of what to expect on the trail and help you into the water on the kayak. The trail has great views of False Bay which often includes seals, dolphins, and whales. You will travel into the harbour, where you can pause for a cup of coffee before heading back. It is a two hours experience in total. The best time to book it, is early morning.
The Houtbay, Chapmans Peak Explorer explores the inaccessible coastline below the world-famous Chapmans Peak drive. These little hidden beaches and caves will show you a different type of beauty of the area. The water is mesmerizingly crystal clear, giving you the chance to see the hidden world below. You will be rewarded with spectacular views across the bay towards the Sentinel.
The Table Bay, Sunrise and Sunset experience is recommended to anyone that wants a unique perspective on the city, both foreign travellers and locals alike. The trip offers you amazing views of Table Mountain, the Waterfront, Cape Town stadium, and the Atlantic seaboard. It starts in Mouille point and meanders around the coastline. Look out for Sunfish, Dolphins, and Whales. The best times for this experience, is at sunrise or sunset.
Palmiet River Rafting and Tubing
Grading: 1 to 4 (easy to challenging, depending on water level and activity)
Length: 2 to 3 hours depending on activity

Rafting: Winter & Spring (June – October)
Tubing: Spring, early Summer (September – Jan 15th) | Autumn (April -June)

About an hour’s drive from Cape Town, just outside Kleinmond, the Palmiet River in the mountains of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve makes for a perfect rafting and tubing destination. Gravity Adventures pioneered the Palmiet River adventures and have been running it for over 15 years now. They offer rafting tours from June to October and tubing tours from September to January and April to June. These tours are designed to give you an exciting experience almost all year round. The Palmiet River offers a friendly stream during the summer months, and then winter rainfall turns it into an exciting white water adventure. The Palmiet River Experience is suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Kloofing at Bainskloof Pass
Grading: 1 to 2 (easy, but must have reasonable fitness level)
Length: 2 to 3 hours including short hike and briefings
Season: Summer – October to June
Drive from Cape Town: 1 hour
Kloofing is exploring a river course by foot, swimming and jumping into crystal clear pools. Bainskloof is a 30-kilometre pass completed in 1853 and is one of the most picturesque passes in the Cape. The kloofing only covers around 2km of it but offers beautiful scenery and will surely put you back in touch with nature. You will wear a helmet and wetsuit to protect you from the sun and for safety. This tour requires a good fitness level and is available to kids 8 years and older, and adults.
Doring River White Water Rafting
Grading: 3 to 4 (moderate to challenging, depending on water level)
Length: 2 days, 2 nights
Season: Winter & early Spring
Drive from Cape Town: 3 hours
About 3 hours’ drive from Cape Town, on the foothills of the Cederberg, lies the Doring River. It winds through a pristine canyon, offering a real wilderness experience. Gravity Adventures offers a two-day white water rafting expedition tour through the untouched Cederberg Mountains during winter and early spring. The two-day trip starts at the base camp near the river. At the end of the trip, you will be transported back to the base camp before heading home. You can also arrange 3 to 4 day-long trips on request.
Breede River Rafting
Grading: 1 to 2 (easy)
Length: 1 to 2 days
Season: Summer, Sep – June
Drive from Cape Town: 1 hr 30 mins
The Breede River, near Worcester, winds its way through the vineyards of the Breede River Valley. There are no demanding rapids. The river consists of stretches of flat water and flowing channels through the reed islands. The Breede River Rafting trip is suitable for all ages and skill levels. It can be run as a half or full day adventure or extended to one, two or more nights.
