Signal Hill, positioned high above the peninsula, is one of Cape Town’s most popular lookout points. It is a 300-meter-high, flat-topped hill situated next to Lion’s Head. Signal Hill offers panoramic views of the City Bowl, Table Bay, the harbour, Atlantic Ocean, and Robben Island. The name dates back to the time when signal flags from here communicated weather warnings to ships below.
At the top of the hill is a spacious viewing spot from where you can enjoy the best views of the city, or take in the beautiful of Cape Town sunset. The view of the twinkling city lights as the sun begins to set is undoubtedly one of the best things you will see in Cape Town. Picnic tables and a large parking area are also available at the summit.
The Signal Hill road will lead you to the hill’s vantage point. The road starts off Kloof Nek and it hugs the eastern flank of Lion’s Head. As you drive to the summit, scenic views of Cape Town will unfold before your eyes. The Signal Hill road is a famous sunset drive, offering a picturesque views of the city and Atlantic seaboard. In high season (from December to February) it might be easier to take an Uber here, or use the MyCiti stop close to Table Mountain (bus route 110). You can use their interactive route map or trip planner to avoid the traffic. Busses run till 18:50.
